3. Reserva Conchal Club
Garra de León is the Robert Trent Jones II design that put Guanacaste golf on the map. Opened 1997, par 71 across 7,021 yards, Troon-managed alongside a 60,000-square-foot beach club. Reserva Conchal reports it has held Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary status for over two decades, one of only three in Costa Rica and 905 worldwide.

5. Tres Volcanes Golf and Country Club

How to Play the Private Golf Clubs in Guanacaste, Costa Rica
- Pick your access route before your course. Every club gates play by ownership, resort stay, or open booking. Choose the route you qualify for, then the course. Backwards is why people arrive with clubs and no tee time.
- Book 3 to 6 weeks out for December through April. High season fills the morning sheet with member and resort play first. May through November, book inside a week.
- Take the earliest tee time offered. Afternoons run hot and the wind builds. From December through March it is a real factor on exposed holes at Pinilla and Papagayo.
- Ask three questions when you call. Is the cart in the quoted rate? Any aeration in my window? What is the guest policy if I stay off property? Three yeses is the difference between a confirmed round and a maybe.
